reading material
This is a collection of reading material that I own personally, except for the digital works. These works are mostly hand-me-downs, thrifted, gifted, or simply well-loved.

Tips for Teens From Carnation by Virginia Piper (1967)
A brochure for Carnation products, disguised as a guide booklet targeted toward teenage girls in the 1960s. It was gifted to my mother in her teens and handed down to me. I was rooting through stuff in the garage one day when I was about 17 and found this gem of a booklet that also acts as a recipe book, manner etiquette, and beauty guide; rampant with product placement. My mom was like, "Oh cool! You can have it." It's incredibly dated in writing-style, recipes, and morals. It's also littered with "the woman's role in the home" type of propaganda, narrated by a sunny, saccharine disposition. The visuals are beautiful however, both in vibrant photography and dainty sketches. I've yet to cook anything from this book, but someday! I have used the artwork for references, being drawn towards the expressive linework and singular color use.
